Tyre on Glessner, CAF Anniversary, Monday, Sept. 26, 5:30 p.m. at AIA Chicago

William Tyre on the 50th Anniversary of CAF and Glessner House Rescue
When: Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Where: AIA Chicago, 35 E. Wacker, 2nd floor.

What: Lecture by William Tyre, Executive Director of the John J. Glessner House, a National Historic Landmark located in the South Loop, and one of the most important American houses of the 19th century. H. H. Richardson, an architect who achieved widespread international recognition, combined the specific needs of the Glessner family with his own progressive design ideas to create a house that was praised by architects but misunderstood and shunned by many of its neighbors. In 1966, the house stood vacant and in threat of demolition. A group of preservationists and architects banded together and formed an organization to purchase and rescue the house, which was a significant milestone in the launch of the historic preservation movement in Chicago. This talk will explore that history, and its fiftieth anniversary as a historic house museum in 2016.
Cost: free for CCSAH members and guests.
